Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of Terms
By installing or using the Overleaf Assistance Chrome extension ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all users of the Service.
2. Description of Service
Overleaf Assistance is a browser extension that adds an AI-powered side panel to the Overleaf online LaTeX editor. It provides features including concept extraction, AI-assisted chat, LaTeX generation, style learning, and image-to-formula conversion.
The Service is provided "as is". We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.
4. Account and Authentication
Access to the Service requires signing in with a Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us immediately at enquiries@weareproxie.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
5. Free Tier and Usage Limits
New accounts receive 100,000 free tokens upon registration. Tokens are consumed when using AI features. Once exhausted, continued use may require a paid plan. We reserve the right to change token allocations and pricing with reasonable notice.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation.
- Generate, distribute, or promote illegal, harmful, or abusive content.
- Infringe the intellectual property rights of others.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service.
- Circumvent rate limits, token limits, or other access controls.
- Use automated scripts or bots to interact with the Service.
- Resell or sublicense access to the Service without our written consent.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including all software, design, and branding, is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your personal or academic research purposes only.
Content you generate using the Service (e.g., AI-produced LaTeX text) is yours. We claim no ownership over output generated on your behalf.
8. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party providers including Google (AI/Gemini and authentication) and Stripe (payment processing). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the actions or policies of these third parties.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will be accurate, complete, or suitable for academic submission.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service — including but not limited to loss of data, academic integrity issues, or reliance on AI-generated content. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $10 USD, whichever is greater.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Overleaf Assistance and its team members from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the extension. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of any paid amounts.
13. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will indicate the revision date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we are incorporated, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of that jurisdiction.
